I’m Alicia, 29, originally from Madrid, Spain. I’ve been passionate about music from a very young age, singing and even composing my own songs as a child.
At 13, I began taking piano lessons, and over the years I also explored guitar, violin, and singing. By the age of 18, I knew I wanted to pursue music at university. However, without support and facing the common belief that music isn’t a reliable career, I chose to study Psychology instead.
While at university, I began teaching piano in the afternoons, a role I continued throughout my four-year degree, alongside my own piano studies. In many ways, I spent more time at the piano than studying psychology.
After graduating, I moved to the UK, where I continued my studies with an MSc in Health Psychology, which I completed successfully despite the challenges of COVID. During this time, I also resumed teaching piano and gradually built a growing student base.
Following my master’s, I worked in both a care home and a psychiatric hospital. However, these experiences made me realise that this path wasn’t right for me. I decided to fully commit to what I had always loved: music. I returned to teaching, and as demand grew, I eventually became self-employed as a piano teacher.
Alongside my private teaching, I have worked in primary schools, secondary schools, and music academies, gaining experience with students of all ages and levels.
After nearly seven years in the UK, I have recently moved to Brisbane, where I’m excited to continue growing my career as a piano teacher.
